Field Technician or Engineer - Construction Materials Testing


Job Description:

GME Testing is seeking a highly motivated field material testing geotechnical engineer to join our rapidly growing company in our existing Fort Wayne, Indiana office. The right candidate will be working outdoors and focused on field inspections and material testing (soils, concrete, and asphalt) as well as construction project inspection.

The position can lead into overseeing, and reviewing construction materials testing projects of varying scales, writing, and reviewing geotechnical proposals and reports and creating, maintaining, and developing client relationships. This position provides an opportunity for the right candidate to gain a great foundation to grow into a high-level Geotechnical Engineer position.

This is a great opportunity for recent civil or geotechnical engineer graduates.


Responsibilities:

• Participate in and contribute to a diverse range of tasks in the field, laboratory, and within the office.
• Conduct field and laboratory studies within the geotechnical and materials division.
• Progress into Performing QA/QC field observations while work is in progress following design reports and documents, collecting samples using a gauge to determine moisture density content, and delivering samples for laboratory testing.
• Progress into performing routine inspections and testing construction materials in the field, to verify conformance to construction plans and specifications.
• Progress into performing engineering calculations, analysis, and report preparation.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects.


Compensation:

• GME Testing salary scale is performance based.
• There will be performance and achievements milestones agreed upon and there will be a defined increase in salary when a milestone is achieved.
• We offer a benefits package, paid holidays, paid vacation, and sick days, for full time engineers.
• Pay Rate is dependent on experience and milestones achieved starting at $25 per hour.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
• Ambition to obtain Engineer in training (EIT) and work toward Professional Engineer (P.E.)
• The ability to learn how to perform field evaluations of project sites.
• Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing with GME Testing personnel and Clients.
• Good Understanding of engineering principles and practices
